The meeting was called to order by Dr. Emma Hiscocks, President. She introduced our special guests: Alex McDonald, MD; CAFP 2024-2025 President and Lisa Folberg, MMP, CEO of the CAFP. They were present in order to have the opportunity to address the members after the meeting was adjourned.
Dr. Hiscocks asked for a motion to approve the minutes from the April 13, 2024, AMAM LAAFP Lunch Caucus at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Sacramento, CA. The minutes were published in the May Newsletter and in the agenda. It was moved and seconded for approval and then unanimously approved.
Dr. Hiscocks presented the January – May, 2024 Treasurer’s Report in the absence of our secretary-treasurers. She asked for a motion to accept the report. It was moved and seconded and was then unanimously accepted.
Announcements were as follows:
1) Registration is open at the CAFP website for the CAFP 2024 Family Medicine POP conference: Hilton Orange County/Costa Mesa, 3050 Bristol St, Costa Mesa, CA 92626, August 23-25, 2024. The LAAFP Annual Meeting is scheduled during that conference for Sunday, August 25, 2024 – 7:30 AM – 8:30 AM in Emerald Bay I and II. Watch for your Annual Meeting invitation in the LAAFP July Newsletter.
2) Five LAAFP medical students applied for and received a $900 scholarship to attend the National Conference in Kansas City, Aug 1 – 3, 2024. (Recent update indicates 10 applicants.)
3) The Nominating Committee met by Zoom on Monday May 13, 2024. In preparation for the 2025 ballot which will be submitted for approval at the Annual Meeting in August at the POP conference, and in order to increase the number of Delegate and Alternate-Delegate nominee choices on our ballot, Dr. Hiscocks opened the floor for nominations at this time. Dr. Yeri Park nominated Dr. Chris Hiromura for Delegate and Dr. Chris Hiromura nominated Dr. Yeri Park for Alternate-Delegate for the 2025-2026 term. They both accepted the nomination. Also, Bryan Medina was nominated for 2025 Resident Board Member and accepted his nomination in person.

Dr. Alex McDonald, CAFP 24-25 President, reported on the strategic priorities for our state chapter in a visual presentation. Lisa Folberg thanked the LA Chapter for their contribution to the academy as a whole and for inviting Dr. McDonald and her to the meeting. She offered CAFP Swag for members able to answer questions having to do with Dr. McDonald’s presentation.
