Spring has sprung, and we’ve been busy as a bee at LAAFP! I hope you’ve been feeling positive energy in this new season. LAAFP successfully hosted its inaugural Family Medicine Career Event: Leap into Post-Residency Careers on February 29th! A recording of the virtual event will be emailed at your request. Please contact LAAcademy@aol.com.
CAFP’s 2024 All Member Advocacy Meeting reinvigorated the passion for family medicine advocacy. LAAFP was well-represented by its Delegates and many other family medicine physicians, residents, and medical students who attended. Attendees testified on a record number of almost-40 resolutions which will be reviewed and acted on by the CAFP board later in the year. Speakers and trainings focused on the advancement of primary care and health equity in California. CAFP is planning next year’s AMAM and Lobby Day on March 15-17, 2025–save the date! If you would like to be more involved with advocacy throughout the year, consider signing up to be a Key Contact. CAFP will also be hosting Family Medicine POP! August 23-25, 2024 during which LAAFP will have a meeting–we’d love to see you there! LAAFP offers resident and student member scholarships to POP!
CAFP partnered with LAAFP and other local Los Angeles organizations to apply for a Los Angeles County Abortion Safe Haven (LASH) Grant, and we have received funding! Over the next 2 years, LAAFP will host 2 live CME sessions on reproductive health, and CAFP will also create a virtual CME session. Another unique part of the LASH grant is LAAFP partnering with the Reproductive Health Access Project to create a mentorship and MAB training program for LA County family medicine residents–please reach out if this piques your interest or you may want to be a mentor!
Lastly, LAAFP’s next meeting is scheduled for Saturday, June 8th 2024 at 11:30 am at Marmalade Cafe at the LA Farmers Market. We are happy to welcome CAFP President Alex McDonald, MD, FAAFP–please join us for lunch, networking, and to hear from Dr. McDonald! We are also looking forward to a personal visit from Lisa Folberg, MMP, CEO of the CAFP.
