Can you believe we are almost done with 2023?
And an amazing year it has been. The “end” of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency has joyously brought many of us back together for in person meetings. The advocacy and energy at the All Member Advocacy Meeting earlier this year was incredible. Our Member Appreciation Meeting & Family Event dinner in San Pedro offered plenty an opportunity to relax and socialize (and attend to business, of course). A highlight this year was the inaugural POP (Prism of Practice) Conference, bringing together our most seasoned and aspiring Family Medicine Physicians, residents, and medical students. Our Chapter even received the award for having the largest attendance! Don’t miss out on our remaining Member Appreciation Meeting & Family Event this November. It will be held at Parker’s Lighthouse in Long Beach – 11-11-23 from 11:30 – 1:30, featuring our own CAFP President Dr. Raul Ayala as a special guest.
Your LAAFP Chapter additionally supported the kickoff of the California Academy of Family Physicians’ (CAFP) Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) initiative. With your votes, we amended the bylaws to create both a medical student and resident position on our Board. There has also been some interest generated during the POP Conference in organizing a volunteer community event! These are just a few examples of the great work being done by our Chapter and members.
I would like to thank everyone for the opportunity to serve as your 2023 President. Dr. Emma Hiscocks will gracefully lead our Chapter in 2024, along with the support of our Board members and treasured Executive Director, Roxanne Kuns. It has been an honor, a privilege and truly a great year.
