President’s Message – Gregory Lewis, MD

Gregory-Lewis, MD
President

Welcome to 2023!  My name is Greg and I am proud to serve as this year’s President of the Los Angeles Academy of Family Physicians (LAAFP), home of the family physicians of Los Angeles County.  I’d like to extend a sincere appreciation to Dr. Po-Yin Samuel Huang for his leadership as President in 2022, our amazing slate of Executive Board Members, Directors, Alternate Directors, Delegates, Alternate Delegates and of course our highly valued Executive Director Roxanne Kuns.  The past few years have certainly tested and proven the adaptability and resilience of all; although none of us know what lies around the corner, let me share a few notable upcoming items.

Three networking dinners are planned for our LAAFP members.  We are still working on the specific dates, but two will likely be in May and November.  The third (our annual meeting) we hope to pair with the California Academy of Family Physicians (CAFP) “POP”:  Prism of Practice, August 25-27.  I am excited to interact with as many of you as possible, enjoying camaraderie and education!

We are delighted to promote and support the CAFP Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) initiative.  This is part of the CAFP Strategic Plan objective to integrate these principles into physician education, training and leadership.  We anticipate an update from the Task Force work being done during the All Member Advocacy Meeting (AMAM) in Sacramento, the weekend of March 25th and 26th.

One of my personal career passions has been working with medical students and residents.  They are integral to the future of our healthcare system.  Demonstrating the difference we all make in the lives of our patients, families and communities as Family Medicine Physicians cannot be understated.  I intend to find ways to further engage them in our Chapter activities.

Finally, I wish to emphasize that we are ultimately here for you – our members.  Without your support, the value of our existence is meaningless.  Expect a short survey sometime this year to gather information.  We want to know how our Chapter can serve your needs best and encourage your involvement.  We look forward to what I am certain will be an incredible 2023!
