2022 in Review
Welcome to our last newsletter of the year and my last president’s message of my term. It is that time of year again to celebrate and reflect on our achievements this year. While we are still recovering from the pandemic and are faced with new challenges from inflation and global supply chain issues to monkeypox and other threats to the health of our patients, family physicians continue to serve on the front lines to protect our patients and promote their well-being. Thank you for your service and support.
Our Academy remains strong and active throughout this year. We continued to leverage technology and hosted an appreciation dinner at multiple restaurants spread throughout our county with a joint virtual educational session on health literacy. We financially supported various workshops and seminars to benefit our medical students and residents. We collaborated with various reputable organizations around the county to disseminate useful information on pediatric care and reproductive health. We also committed to supporting additional speakers at the upcoming All Member’s Advocacy Meeting to promote justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) in collaboration with CAFP.
Throughout the year, it was awesome to see more and more active participation at our meetings. We had the pleasure of meeting many new physicians and students, several of whom have stepped up and joined our leadership and are already leaders in various other organizations. I would like to thank all of you for joining our efforts to promote family medicine and protect our patients. I also had the honor to serve with an excellent executive committee, who met numerous times on short notice to help review and approve grants and proposals while keeping our financial position stable. I would like to thank Dr. Greg Lewis, Dr. Emma Hiscocks, Dr. Jerry Abraham, and Dr. Divya Shenoy for their support and dedication to our Academy. I also appreciated the mentorship from all our leaders who came before me and remain active part of our family and represent us at the CAFP board and beyond. Finally, my deepest gratitude goes to Roxanne Kuns, our esteemed Executive Director, who has supported our organization for over 30 years. She is the steady hand that guided us throughout the years and without whom none of our achievements above would be possible.
Thank you all for the opportunity to serve as your president over the past year. As I pass the baton to Greg, I am confident that our Academy will be in great hands to continue our work to protect our profession and advance our goals. I hope to stay active and support our Academy in any way possible. If you haven’t already, please come join us at our appreciation dinners and get involved with advocacy and organized medicine! All levels of participation are welcomed! I wish all of you a wonderful holiday season and an awesome new year to come!
