President’s Message – Po-Yin Samuel Huang, MD

Po-Yin Samuel Huang, MD President

Welcome to our April newsletter! As we approach summer, I hope you are planning to take some precious time away from work to rejuvenate as I am sure that many of you have been inundated with patients returning from the pandemic hiatus and eager to catch up with you with all the issues they accumulated over the past few years. As the flight attendants always remind us to put the emergency air mask on first before putting it on others, we need to remember to take care for ourselves before we can attend to those who need us. As we strive to individualize the care we provide, we also need to find what works best for our own wellbeing. If there is anything our Academy can do to support you, please feel free to reach out.

While the light at the end of the pandemic tunnel seems to be ever so close, please continue to stay vigilant for potential resurgence and continue to vaccinate everyone we can. We know not what lies ahead with possible variants or new diseases of concern but navigating uncertainty has certainly become our forte after these two years of struggle. Let us continue to follow the science and provide the evidence driven care with compassion and empathy. Let us continue to support one another as we face the next phase of our challenges in primary care. As most of you know, AAFP has resources to keep us up to date with all the latest information on how to best help our patients through this pandemic and beyond.

As we start to gather more in person, we will also continue to leverage the technology and experience gained during the pandemic. We plan to continue hosting meetings and events both in person and virtually to promote participation and foster our community. Please join us for one of our upcoming membership appreciation events to share stories and enjoy each other’s company. The upcoming one at the end of May also has CME attached. I look forward to connecting and learning with you. We are also constantly looking for new ideas to move our Academy forward, so please feel free to share any thoughts you have on how we can best support family physicians in our county. Thank you for all you do for our patients and our profession!
