Happy new year everyone! Thank you for reading our first newsletter of 2022. We hope you had a chance to recharge during the holidays and energize for the year to come. As we enter the third year of this unprecedented pandemic, we wish you a safe and prosperous new year. Your local chapter of the Academy stands ready to support you and our profession in this coming year of uncertainty. LAAFP will continue to host various events to provide educational sessions and networking opportunities for all family physicians and students aspiring to become family physicians. Please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns.
As the pandemic continues to surge, it is increasingly clear that family medicine is the answer to many of the problems of our broken healthcare system. Providing cost effective, preventative, patient-oriented care is crucial. Whether in a solo or small group practice or a large group or academic setting, family medicine physicians continue to serve as the cornerstone to our nation’s health. Thank you for all you do for our patients and our families.
At the same time, we also face many threats from all directions: pandemic, workforce shortage, supply chain disruption, government interference, scope creep, and burnout. While we may not be able to solve all these challenges at once, together we can make a difference. We must stand together to support each other and effect change within every setting we work. In addition to serving as leaders in your health systems and your communities, working with our state and national academies can help promote the values of family medicine. CAFP’s All Members’ Advocacy Meeting in March and AAFP’s Family Medicine Advocacy Summit in May are awesome opportunities to learn about effective ways to support family medicine and advocate at the state and national levels.
In this new year, let us turn our challenges into opportunities. Let us continue to advocate for our profession and our patients. Through our gatherings and meetings, let us continue to support each other and help all family physicians thrive. Please feel free to reach out if there is anything our academy can help with. Together, let us move family medicine forward!
