Welcome to the Spring newsletter. For many of us, now vaccinated, and watching our patients become vaccinated it does feel like new beginnings are around the corner.
Recently LA chapter members were invited to attend a two-part workshop on Trauma Informed Care regarding Adverse Childhood Experiences. This was made possible by the California Surgeon General Nadine Burke Harris and a team of physicians through the California Academy of Family Physicians. For those of you not able to attend, consider watching Dr Burke Harris’s 15-minute TED talk: Nadine Burke Harris TED Talk and there are additional resources here: https://www.familydocs.org/aces/resources/
Contemplating the long-term effects of toxic stress on our patients and how this influences our interactions and care for them is a worthwhile endeavor.
I hope that many of you can join virtually for the CAFP All Member Advocacy Meeting (AMAM), May 15-16, 2021. Saturday, May 15th will focus on resolutions and officer elections. Sunday, May 16th will focus on advocacy training and education. For those new to AMAM it is an opportunity to see the work of CAFP and be engaged regarding advocacy as well as connect with your colleagues.

Our chapter will be having our next business meeting before AMAM on Wednesday May 12 at 6.30pm. Join us virtually to prepare for AMAM and review the resolutions. This is an opportunity to discuss the resolutions and determine if LA chapter or individual delegates will present testimony at AMAM. The CAFP Board subsequently reviews all resolutions and Chapter support or concern regarding a resolution is taken into consideration. The CAFP Board ultimately will vote to adopt a resolution and once adopted, it becomes official and public CAFP policy.
This a wonderful opportunity to shape the LA Chapter’s responses to the resolutions so I hope you can join us. Once you are registered for the business meeting, there will be instructions regarding ordering dinner through Grubhub.
What’s next? For upcoming events after May we are looking forward to arranging in person events. We will continue to follow all LA County Public Health guidelines and recommendations but are anticipating we can move to in person soon. The Covid Pandemic has been long and taken its toll on many of us. I am looking forward to connecting with many of you as soon as possible! Hang in there!
