Executive Board Meeting Minutes

Taix French Restaurant, Los Angeles

The meeting was called to order by President, Daniel Pio, MD.  Twenty-one members and guests were present. Following a brief greeting and introduction by Dr. Pio, he turned the meeting over to President-Elect, Nzinga Graham, MD. All names have been placed on record.   Executive Director, Roxanne Kuns, was also in attendance.  

Dr. Graham called for the approval of the minutes to the May 4th meeting at the Marmalade Café in Los Angeles.  A motion to approve the minutes as printed in the Agenda (noting the name correction), was moved and seconded.  The minutes were unanimously approved.

Po-Yin Samuel Huang, MD, presented the January – August 31, 2019, Treasurer’s Report which had the added feature of a budget column to help with a comparison between the budget and the up-to-date income and expenditures.  A motion was made and seconded to accept the report as printed in the Agenda. A unanimous vote to accept the report followed.

Dr. Graham opened the floor for additional nominations to the 2020 Nominating Committee Report as presented in the Agenda.  There were no additions named from the floor. The nomination report was accepted as presented. Dr. Graham then closed the nominations.

Two important announcements were printed in the Agenda:

  1. The All Member Advocacy Meeting is scheduled for March 14 and 15 (with the Lobby Day on the 16th) at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Sacramento.
  2. January 10, 2020, is the deadline to submit resolutions to the AMAM (see familydocs.org to download the resolution template under “Events,” “All Member Advocacy Meeting,” “Download Resolution Form.”  If you would like to request endorsement by the LAAFP for your resolution, please submit it to LAACADEMY@aol.com on or before December 1, 2019.

The meeting was adjourned.

The remainder of the evening was spent interactively participating in an educational presentation by Dr. Bruno Lewin on the topic “When You Bring More Back Than Just Memories: The Ill Returned Traveler.”
